Things to Do in Charleston, South Carolina This Week: September 3 Through 12

Here is what we would put on the calendar between Thursday, September 3 and Saturday, September 12. It is a music-heavy two weeks, with a lot of it on the upper peninsula and in North Charleston, but there is baseball, comedy and a football game in there too.

Charleston Riverdogs vs. Augusta GreenJackets

This is the last regular-season baseball at the ballpark before the playoffs start the following week, and a Thursday game is the easy one to walk up to. Go for the evening air off the river as much as the baseball; by September the heat finally breaks around the seventh inning.

The Movement & Pepper – High Tide Summer Tour

Two touring bands with a beach-rock lean, on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, which is about as on-brand as a Charleston show gets. It is an early start, so treat it as the whole evening rather than the warm-up to one.

NEEDTOBREATHE: The Long Surrender Tour

A Sunday rock show in North Charleston to close out the long weekend, with a start early enough that you are not dragging on Monday. The band has South Carolina roots, so expect a crowd that knows the words.

Nurse John: Against Medical Advice Tour

The one comedy date in the window, and a big room for it. The act grew out of nursing-life videos, so expect a crowd that has worked a night shift or two and a set that runs on shared grievance.

Collective Soul

The nineties alternative catalog, played by the band that wrote it, on a Friday night. The top of the ticket range is steep and the low end is the one most people will want, so buy early if that matters to you.

Citadel Bulldogs Football vs. Charleston Southern Buccaneers Football

A crosstown game with a late-afternoon kickoff, which in mid-September means the sun is off the stands by the second half. Home games at The Citadel come with the cadet march-on before kickoff, and that alone is worth arriving early for.
